Naive? Primitive?

These are the terms that the art world uses to identify the work of self taught artists. For these artists the established rules of perspective, proportion and color do sevnot apply. The results are a straight-from-the heart reflections of the artist's view of the world. When the artist is Sev Ickes, that view of the world is one that lives in that never-never land we call memory.

Every Sev Ickes painting is a celebration of life that immediately delights the eys. Her bright colors and myriad details soon lead to a bemused investigation of the complete canvas to make sure that one hasn't missed a single expression.

Her works, past and present have been displayed in various galleries both in nationally and abroad. She has been twice honored to represent the United States in the Swiss Prize for Modern Primitive Painting in Geneva, Switzerland.

A native of Evanston, Illinois, she presentally is residing on the Northern California Coast near the community of Mendocino.
